Lithium batteries: never in checked baggage
21/12/2015
The Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) campaigns together with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in order to raise passenger awareness on risks related to lithium batteries stored in the hold of an aircraft.
Smartphones and most of the portable electronic devices are commonly equipped with lithium batteries that could – if damaged or short circuited - ignite and start a fire. To avoid risks, spare batteries and electronic devices must be stored in cabin baggage or carried on board by the passengers.
