Cagliari Airport sees big traffic surge in June

The summer has started in the best possible way at Cagliari Airport. Traffic statistics in June 2021 indicate a remarkable increase both in passengers and aircrafts figures. By scoring 261,366 travellers and 2,300 aircraft movements in total, last June has performed better than June and even July 2020, with traffic flow levels similar to the ones of 2019.

Since leisure travel is now generally allowed in Italy and Europe, domestic and international routes are highly in demand: in June 2020 226,780 total passengers have flown to or from Cagliari on the former, while 34,586 have chosen the latter.

With its wide network of scheduled routes (85, of which 46 international and 39 domestic) and carriers (22), Cagliari Airport has laid the groundwork for a marked recovery of traffic levels that will be beneficial to the tourist industry.

As noted by Cagliari Airport CEO Renato Branca, South Sardinia has a very strong appeal to tourists due to its natural beauty and also because it is perceived as a very safe destination in terms of COVID-19 containment. According to Branca, increasing figures in June might well indicate a positive trend for the whole summer season 2021.
