New awareness campaign against sand, rocks and shells theft

This year’s edition of ‘Sardegna - Portala nel cuore’ ( lit. ‘Sardinia – Carry it only in your heart’), the campaign promoted by the Italian Customs Autority (Agenzia delle Dogane) and the Sardinian regional government (Regione Sardegna), aims to create more awareness about the laws making sand theft illegal.

Football legend Gianfranco Zola (aka ‘Magicbox’ thanks to his brilliant career in the Premier League), showgirl Giorgia Palmas, former swimming champion Filippo Magnini and singer Bianca Atzei are the campaign ambassadors for 2022.

Every summer tons of sand, rocks and shells are taken away from many beautiful Sardinian beaches as souvenirs.

Holidaymakers should not only know that their actions pose a serious threat to the island’s environment but also that they might be fined and prosecuted according to law.
