Cagliari Airport joins RE-CIG against cigarette litter

From waste to wealth: Cagliari Airport adopts a state-of-the-art resource recovery technology giving a new life to cigarette butts.

It is the most abundant form of plastic waste in the world: cigarette butts do not biodegrade and pollute the environment leaking toxic chemicals into soil and water.

Starting from May 6th 2025, Cagliari Airport teams up with RE-CIG^®, a company providing innovative and unique solutions to help fight this issue. Thanks to the new Smokers Points located in the designated smoking areas just outside the terminal (Arrivals and Departures levels), cigarette butts will be collected and processed to become a polymer plastic to be used for new objects made of recycled materials.
